When Rick was in Angola, using a camera in public risked arousing the suspicion of the military police. Photographs like this one of bullet-pocked buildings in downtown Lubango were taken surreptiously to avoid problems with the local militia. At the time of Rick's visit, no tourists were allowed into the country. Only those foreigners with NGO contacts were allowed to cross the border. All non-nationals were required to carry their passports-visas with them at all times.
