This is one of Rick's favourite photographs of him and Mary. The photo' was taken at their son, Aaron's, 21st birthday party, September, 2002. Two months later Rick's and Mary's lives would change radically. In the course of travelling from Three Hills to Calgary to attend the funeral of an MAFC missionary family member, Rick was involved in a serious motor vehicle accident. The incident effectively ended his career as a commercial pilot, and nearly ended his life. Since that time Rick and Mary have been coming to grips with the reality of God's sovereignty in their lives. One thing is clear to them: the Lord does not make mistakes. The formation of a Haven in Gilead Ministries is one of the positive outcomes of Rick's close encounter with the Lord on a snow-covered back road in rural Alberta, 28 October 2002.
